An Expert's Guide To Understanding Regulatory Traffic Signs

In the United States, road signs are regulated by the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), which is published by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The MUTCD sets forth national standards for the design, placement, and maintenance of traffic control devices, including regulatory traffic signs.
Regulatory traffic signs are signs that tell drivers what they must or must not do, such as stop signs, yield signs, speed limit signs, and do not enter signs. These signs are typically rectangular in shape and are red, white, or black.
While regulatory traffic signs are most often found on highways and freeways, they may also be used on other types of roads, such as city streets and rural roads.
